Crazy Outdoors Guy

11 of the coolest and most useful camp gadgets and gear of 2017

I like to look at gear.  I admit it, I’m somewhat of an online shopaholic.  There’s no spending problem but I shop and comparison shop a lot.  Of course, I wouldn’t be the Crazy Outdoors Guy if I wasn’t shopping for outdoors and camping gear and there’s plenty of cool stuff out there so I decided to put together a list of the coolest and most useful camp gadgets and gear I’ve seen to share with my readers.

Now my favorite shopping tool is of course Amazon.  There’s a certain risk when shopping online and by shopping with major multi-billion dollar companies like Amazon you’re given some assurance that you won’t be ripped off.  Everything on this list is available on Amazon for just that reason.  Most of the items are also prime-eligible.  If you don’t already have a prime membership this is something else I highly recommend and since they offer a free 30-day trial at the link below  it’s an easy sell.

Amazon’s third party seller system creates a rather dynamic pricing structure where an Amazon approved vendor can run a sale or offer a lower price and the product page will automatically be updated with the lowest price available.  Because of these dynamically changing prices I don’t list the current costs on this page.

Now, here’s the list of the coolest camp gadgets and gear of 2017.

This screen room has those same magnetic screen doors you see on the TV commercials.  Very cool!

Etekcity portable Outdoor LED Lanterns

These collapsible lanterns are extremely cheap and work great.  They also come with batteries installed and a plastic battery easy remove tab so they can be stored with batteries for years.  When the power goes out just pull the tab and expand for light.

LifeStraw Personal Water Filter

If you haven’t heard of life straw then look into it now.  They took the power of water filtration and stuffed it into a pocket size straw for emergencies.  This can really save your life in the back country.  The company also has a charitable twist of providing safe water to developing countries.  For every LifeStraw sold one school child in a developing country receives safe drinking water for an entire school year.

Magical Flames

Add a dose of color to your campfire with a packet or two of magical flames.  The kids love these!  Make sure to do it after you’ve roasted the marshmallows.

Coleman 80 x 32-Inches Pack-Away Cot with Nightstand

This is a personal pick for me.  I sleto have my phone, battery pack, water bottle, and a few things next to me.  I’m usually building a night stand out of camping totes and bags to do it.  This would come in so handy!

Anker 21W Dual USB Solar Charger

Charging on the go can be hard, especially if you’re camping in the back country.  Yes, leave the phone at home if you can, but for some people these solar USB chargers can be a life saver.

Image Portable LED Camping Lantern with Ceiling Fan

This get’s a nod for pure ingenuity.  I picked one of these up a couple years ago before summer camp in a rather hot region.  A hanging light and ceiling fan or desk fan combination made this perfect for the week and the batteries lasted longer than I expected.

KEKU High Power LED Headlamp

Super bright flashlights are really cool.  Headlamps are really handy.  Super bright headlamps are plain just awesome though!  This headlamp boasts a blinding 5000 Lumens.  A standard 75 watt household bulb is only around 1000 lumens so this is the equivalent of 5 household bulbs – on your head! Also waterproof and rechargeable with both a wall and car charger.
